Spaceman 03:41
Bang-bang, shoot 'em up! I wanted to be a spaceman. That's what I wanted to be. Now that I am a spaceman... Nobody cares about me. Hey, Mother Earth... Won't you bring me back down safely to the sea? Around and around and around is all she ever say to me. I wanted to make a good run. I wanted to go to the moon. I knew that it had to be fun. I told 'em to send me real soon. I wanted to be a spaceman. I wanted to be so bad. Now that I am a spaceman... I'd rather be back on the pad. Hey, Mother Earth... Won't you bring me back down safely to the sea? Around and around and around is just a lot o' lunacy! 'Round and around and around and around... So bring me back down. 'Round and around and around and around... Safe on the ground! I wanted to be a spaceman. That's all I wanted to be. Now that I am a spaceman... Nobody cares! Hey, Mother Earth... Won't you bring me back down? I've taken as much as I can! This 'round and around and around is the problem with being a spaceman. Bang-bang, shoot 'em up!

about

In 1968, Man circled the Moon and described it as "a vast, lonely, forbidding expanse of nothing". That same year, The Beatles told journalists that their favorite American musician was Harry Nilsson. By 1972, the Space Race had settled into a detente and public interest in the lunar landscape waned, which Nilsson summed up succinctly with his single "Spaceman".

It's a song about aiming for the stars, only to be stranded among them; feeling at once connected with the universe, yet detached from the world. This is a subject to which The Saturn III are no strangers, and now they've reimagined "Schmilsson's" stellar serenade as a psychedelic freakout for the postmodern age.

Fifty years later, the Moon is still empty and billionaires are commercializing suborbital travel. Perhaps Earthlings are progressing toward greater understanding, or maybe just spinning their cosmic wheels. Either way, at least the soundtrack slaps. Download it now.
